새로 개조한 의 함장 왕가위와 조타수 양조위가 부산 앞바다에 모습을 드러내자 플래시가 번쩍였다. 개막을 앞둔 7일 오후 3시45분. 프레스와 게스트를 대상으로 한 의 상영이 끝나자, 해운대 메가박스 5관은 왕가위, 양조위의 기자회견에 참석하기 위해 몰려온 취재진들로 북새통을 이뤘다. 의 차우처럼 단정한 정장 차림을 한 양조위는 “부산에 온 건 이번이 3번째지만 여전히 흥분된다”며 “바다를 곁에 둔 도시라 방문 때마다 휴가온 듯 한 기분이 든다”는 소감으로 운을 뗐다. 자리에 앉자마자 담배부터 입에 문 왕가위 감독은 영어, 한국어, 중국어 등 3개 국어가 뒤섞여 진행된 기자회견이 답답했던지 직접 통역을 하겠다고 나서기도 했다.
이날 기자회견에선 예상했던 대로 올해 칸 영화제 출품 이후 제작진이 재촬영 및 재편집에 나선 이유가 무엇인지에 대한 질문이 나왔다. 왕가위는 “칸의 경우 출품을 서둘러야 했던 상황이어서 CG를 완성하지도 못한 상태로 상영했다”면서 “이후에 사운드 믹싱을 새로 하고 음악을 다듬는” 등 미진했던 후반작업을 보충했다고 설명했다. 칸 버전에 비해 러닝타임이 10분 정도 늘어났고, 기무라 타쿠야를 왕페이의 일본인 연인으로 등장시키는 설정을 새로 촬영한 이유에 대해선 구체적인 질문과 답이 오갈 기회가 주어지지 않았다. 왕가위 감독은 “기무라 타쿠야의 경우 프로듀서가 팬이라서 기용하게 됐는데 촬영현장에서 보니 자신의 모든 능력을 발휘할 정도로 항상 업(up)이 되어 있는 상태여서 다른 배우들과의 호흡을 고려해 진정시켜야 하는 상황이 적지 않았다”는 비하인드 스토리 정도만 소개했다.
“첫 촬영 때 왕가위 감독이 와서는 <화양연화>의 차우와 같은 인물이지만 다른 분위기를 보여야 한다고 해서 그때서야 이거 만만한 게 아니구나 싶었다”는 양조위에겐 주로 “같이 연기하고 싶은 한국 여배우가 있느냐”는 류의 가십성 질문들이 주를 이뤘다. 상대를 능수능란하게 상대하는 의 차우처럼, 양조위는 이와 같은 질문에도 “에서 장쯔이, 공리, 왕페이 등을 혼자서 상대했던 것처럼 매력적인 한국 여배우들 모두와 연기할 수 있는 영화에 출연하고 싶다”고 말해 폭소를 이끌어냈다. 영화 속에서 과거에 붙들려 있는 인물인 차우 캐릭터와 관련해서 왕가위 감독은 “차우는 현실에 대해 불만을 갖고 있으며 그래서 과거 혹은 미래에 빠져드는 인물”이라고 설명한 뒤 “삶에 있어 중요한 것은 현실적인 타이밍”이라고 말했다.
Too Hard To Finish As Always

At the press interview, director Wong Kar Wai was asked why he retook the shots and revised the films after the Cannes Film Festival. He answered that because he had to be hurry to exhibit films for the Cannes, he put it on the screen without finishing the computer graphic work. He added that he, therefore, changed the sound design work and revised scenes and took additional shots as well. In fact, the actual running time of the film is 10 minutes extended. However, director Wong didn't give any moments to be asked about the reason of Kimura Takyua's casting as Feye Wong's Janpanes boyfriend.
Tony Leung mentioned that when director Wong Kar Wai came to him and said that new role of was very similar to Chow Mo-Wan in , but should go in somewhat different mood, he thought this role is not much easy. On the other hand, at the press interview, Tony Leung was asked about Korean actresses that he would like to be casted with in the film. To the question, he smiled for a moment and said he happily would take parts with all of Korean actresses not just one if possible. At the closing interview, director Won Kar Wai said that the character Chow Mo-Wan was not easily satisfied with the real life, and this makes him to be much complicated and depended on his past or future.
