“전통을 뿌리 삼아 새로운 창조의 도시가 되겠습니다. 영화를 통해 더 큰 미래를 열어가는 도시가 되겠습니다” 4월26일 저녁 7시, 전주국제영화제가 여덟번째 개막 축포를 쏘아올렸다. 한국 소리문화의 전당 내 모악당에서 열린 개막식은 행사 시작 2시간 전부터 취재진과 관객들로 북적거렸다. 영화제 조직위원장인 송하진 전주시장은 전통 한복 차림으로 2천여명의 관객들과 게스트들 앞에서 여덟돌을 맞은 온고을 축제의 개막을 선언했다. 민병록 집행위원장은 개막인사를 통해 “관객 감동 영화제를 만들기 위해 스탭들이 판타스틱한 영화들과 엘레강스한 무대를 마련했다”고 말했다.
빅 마마, 비보이 코리아의 축하공연으로 흥을 돋우고, 이리 멘젤, 이윤기 등의 심사위원 소개 등으로 이어진 개막식은 사회를 맡은 김명민, 박솔미 두 배우의 능숙한 진행 덕에 비교적 매끄럽게 진행됐다. 인디비전 심사위원인 노엘 베라는 필리핀 말로 전주국제영화제와 독립영화의 ‘만수무강’을 기원했다. 이태성과 함께 영화제 홍보대사를 맡은 이영아는 “아직 영화를 한편도 찍지 못한 햇병아리 배우인데 이 자리에 서게 됐다”며 소감을 털어놨다. 도중에 마이크가 꺼지는 작은 소동이 있었지만, 이영아는 “정말 열심히 하겠습니다”라고 크게 목소리를 높여 청중들로부터 환호와 박수를 받았다. 1시간 가까이 진행된 이날 행사는 개막작 <오프로드>의 한승룡 감독과 백수장, 선우선 등의 배우들이 소개되고, <오프로드>가 상영되면서 정점에 올랐다.
The 8th Film Festival Has Begun!
“Taking tradition as its root, a new city of creation will be born. Through films, the city will widely open up to a bigger future.” It is April 26th 7 in the evening, and the Jeonju International Film Festival fired away its 8th salvo. The opening ceremony was held at the Sori Arts Center, and the place was jammed with a seething mass of reporters and spectators. The chairman of JIFF Organizing Committee and the mayor of Jeonju, Song Ha Jin who was dressed in Han-bok, a traditional Korean costume, and announced the opening of the 8th birthday of the entire district’s film festival to more than 2,000 spectators and guests. The Festival Director Min Byung-lock stated in his opening address that, “the staff has worked hard to prepare fantastic movies and an elegant stage to create an impressive festival for the audience.”
Big Mama and B-boy ’s festive performances heightened the excitement, judges like Jiri Menzel and Lee Yoon-ki were introduced, and Kim Myung-min and Park Sol-mi, the MCs, adeptly presided over the opening ceremony that the whole event was executed relatively smoothly. ‘Indie Vision’ judge Noel Vera wished in Philippine, the ‘long life’ of the Jeonju International Film Festival and Independent Films. Along with Lee Tae-sung, Lee Young-ah who has been appointed as the promotional ambassador of the festival shared her feelings by stating that “as a greenhorn who has not yet starred in a movie, is standing here.” There was a minor disturbance when the microphone was suddenly turned off but Lee Young-ah said, “I will put my best effort” at the top of her voice, and the crowd applauded heartily back. The event took place for about an hour. The opening film <Off Road>’s director Han Seung-ryong, actors Baek Soo-jang and Sunwoo Sun were introduced, and as <Off Road> was screened the event reached its apex.
